Every album is a conversation with yourself about where you've been and where you're finally brave enough to go.
Earned Light started as a question: what does it feel like to stop bracing? Not triumph — the world has enough triumph. But that quiet afternoon light in an empty room when you realize the worst didn't come and you don't have to hold your breath anymore. That's what I wanted to capture across these twelve tracks.
Some of them came fast, written in a single sitting with a melody that felt like it had been waiting years to exist. Others took patience — verses dismantled and rebuilt, chorus lines rewritten a dozen times until they stopped lying. The title track, "Earned Light," went through more versions than any of them. But the version that made it is the one where I finally stopped performing and just... spoke.
There's a duet here with my friend Jae Jazz — "The Impossible." It's about two people who want to believe in something together but can't quite stop the world from pulling them toward separate answers. I sang it in one take, the kind where you forget the microphone is there.
And then there's "Permanent" as the closer. Twelve tracks to get here, and the last one is just about choosing to stay. Not because the door closed behind you, but because the one ahead is finally the one you want to walk through.
This album isn't polished in the way that means "safe." It's polished in the way that means we found every rough edge on purpose.
Thank you for listening. These twelve songs are yours now.
